Cooking with Bill Belichick
Before he was the sleeve-cutting head coach of the New England Patriots, Belichick coached a team somewhere in Ohio, and spend his off-hours moonlighting as a chef. Maybe that can explain the lack of success there compared to what he's accomplished in New England.

Giuliani's Quest is at an End
Click on image for full cartoonWell, it's official. Mr. 9-1-1's quest to become the next President of the United States is over. His Florida plan has officially backfired, and he know will have to pick him self up by the bootstraps, or with the millions he makes doing public speeches and from his law firm.
And for those of you that are interested, here's Lou Gehrig's farewell address to Yankee's fans on July 4, 1939:
McCain Takes Florida
Click on image for full cartoonJohn McCain took command of the Republican presidential race last night with a huge win in Florida, another state primary that was only opened to conservatives.
However, when you have the Huckster siphoning off votes from Romney, I'm sure that helps.

Oregon: Steve Novick's Brilliant New Ad
For those of you that might not be familiar with Oregon politics, Steve Novick (born in Newark, New Jersey) is running in a primary against Jeff Merkley, the Speaker of the Oregon House of Representatives. The winner of will go on to face Republican incumbent Senator Gordon Smith in the 2008 election for US Senate.
I've done some cartoons about this ongoing battle. Essentially, the Democratic Party is behind Merkley, and are trying desperately to get Novick, who was born with significant physical disabilities which include a missing left hand and missing fibula bones in his legs, out of the race.
Click on image for full cartoonHere's his new 30-second television ad, and I just have to say, it's brilliant!
Obama Has the Momentum
Click on image for full cartoonSo the last 24 hours were great for Barack Obama.
First, Obama enjoys a resounding victory in the South Carolina primary over Billary and John Edwards. Then on Sunday, Caroline Kennedy, daughter of John F. Kennedy, endorses Obama for president, saying:
I have never had a president who inspired me the way people tell me that my father inspired them. But for the first time, I believe I have found the man who could be that president — not just for me, but for a new generation of Americans. And today, Ted Kennedy is going to endorse Obama, giving him a lot of momentum going into Super Tuesday (or whatever they're calling it).
As for the cartoon, the drawing was fun, but I had a blast painting the JFK portrait. Painted by Aaron Shikler, it resides in the Entrance Hall of the White House. You can check out the original here, and compare it to my version (keep in mind Shikler had months to paint it...I had an hour :)

From the Sketchpad...
Here's a quick sketch I did of Barack Obama while watching the morning talk shows today. I'll have a cartoon later on in the day. (hopefully...still have to catch that tricky idea...)
What did you think of Obama's victory last night? I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Awesome Wuerking Cartoon from Politico
Check out this awesome cartoon by Matt Wuerking over at Politico.com. I love the fact that he's able to use traditional media to color his cartoons. I've stuck with Photoshop mostly, which is quick and easy, just to hit my deadlines. I'm looking forward to playing with Painter more. Nick Anderson over at the Houston Chronicle has produced some amazing cartoons that way.
New Jersey: Corzine Hearts Toll Road Hikes
Click on image for full cartoonDespite heavy opposition, Jony-boy is still pushing his toll road plan, not considering alternatives, AND asking to borrow even more money, something that he said would stop.
What's next? Corzine asking people to send their rebate checks to Trenton to help pay down their share of the budget deficit?

Justin Bilicki Draws...on Video.
Earlier in the week, I posted a video of Jeff Danziger talking about cartooning. Here's a video of Justin Bilicki, who does editorial cartoons for the New York Press, doing a cartoon from start to finish. I haven't had the chance to meet Justin yet, but there's always the next AAEC con. I've always dug his stuff, and I'm amazed how large he works.
Here's his blog, and here's the video."
Who's Super Bowl Is It?
I don't really have anything witty to say on this one, so I'll let this photo I found of a seemingly drunk Eli Manning do all the talking:

Colorado: Clinton and Daschle Coming To Town?
Click on image for full cartoonDo the major presidential candidates care about Colorado?
Apparently not enough to actually show up! Hilary has decided to send her attack dog-in-chief Bill Clinton to headline a Denver fund-raiser for her White House bid next Wednesday. Unfortunately, Obama won't be there for him to attack. Instead, Barack is deploying former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle, who will lead a reception and briefing on behalf Obama the same day.

New Jersey: Lonegan Behind Bars
Click on image for full cartoonFor those of you that may have not heard, the former Mayor of Bogota, conservative activist Steve Lonegan, was arrested outside of Middle Township High School in Cape May County while Corzine was giving one of his toll-road seminars.
And according to the Star-Ledger, Corzine insisted his office had nothing to do with the arrest of Lonegan, even though the mayor of Middle Township said local police acted at the direction of the governor's staff.
Here are a bunch of interesting links to different stories at PolitickerNJ.com to sink your teeth into.
