I'm on vacation

I’m off through July 23 for some much needed rest and relaxation. I'll be heading up to Niagara Falls and Buffalo, and then down to wine country.

Talk amongst yourselves while I'm gone. I'll give you a topic. The Holy Roman Empire was neither holy nor Roman nor an empire. Discuss.

Marzilli to argue a technicality?

Massachusetts State Senator James Marzilli (D-Arlington) will attempt use the legalization of same-sex marriage in Massachusetts as a way to escape charges of a sexual rampage in Lowell.

"If the perpetrator was another woman, they couldn't be prosecuted and the victims would have no redress," Marzilli's attorney told the Herald. "The only reason you can prosecute (Marzilli) is because he's a man. I've got a problem with that."

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger slammed President Bush on This Week with George Stephanopoulos due to the Environmental Protection Agency's recent decision not to take further action against global warming during the remainder of Bush's presidency.

"Well, to be honest with you, if they would have done something this year, I would have thought it was bogus anyway," he said. When asked why, Arnold said, "because you don't change global warming and you don't really have an effect by doing something six months before you leave office."

Vermont Yankee is only getting older

A leak in one of Vermont Yankee's cooling towers has Vermont officials and legislators concerned that the owner of the nuclear power plant in Vernon is not doing all that it promised to insure the plant operates safely.

A Vermont Yankee internal document leaked to the Brattleboro Reformer late Friday night also appears to call into question whether new inspection and maintenance procedures had yet to be initiated.
