Please welcome the newest member to the Politicker family today with the launch of PolitickerNY.com. The site is unique in our network, as it takes the already stellar local New York reporting team from The New York Observer, adds a new reporter with the hiring of Jimmy Vielkind, and places them to work on a statewide beat. So why are we doing all this?
Depending on how you look at it, we’re victims of our success – traffic to the Observer’s Politicker blog has more than doubled in the past year, and our employers noticed – or beneficiaries of having one of the very few publishers willing to spend money on a new journalism venture at a time when much of the industry is turning to dust.
