In Oregon, there is a Democratic primary for US Senate between Jeff Merkley, the state House Speaker and the Democratic establishment candidate, and Steve Novick, a leftist lawyer and Paul Wellstone kind of candidate. Novick is a thalidomide baby, stands 4’8” tall and has a hook instead of a left hand, something that he plays up on his campaign website, votehook.com.
Novick was in the race first, and the state/national Dems have pretty much picked Merkley. They’d like Novick out of the race, so they can concentrate on beating GOP Sen. Gordon Smith, but Novick doesn’t seem at all willing to go.

Novick is indeed a Wellstone-like character in a nation that sorely needs such a man in its Senate. If you like politics as usual, then Novick might not be for you. But if you really believe in meaningful change, Novick's your guy.
Say what you want about Steve Novick, but he's hardly a flake -- the guy matriculated at Harvard Law School at the ripe old age of 18, went on to graduate with Honors, and then pursued a successful legal career with the U.S. Department of Justice. Novick is a devoted public servant and one of the rare candidates for high office who will actually tell the public what he thinks. Once the Democrats of Oregon are introduced to his razor sharp mind, down-to-earth demeanor, and willingness to fight for what he believes, I suspect he'll not only win the primary but finally receive the DSCC help that he needs to defeat Smith.
I've known the guy for 26 years, having gone to law school with him. He was easily one of the most impressive people in our class.
